Overview

As part of the modernization efforts at Rochester International Airport, The Fi Company partnered to deliver multiple digital display and signage solutions designed to enhance passenger navigation, improve information visibility, and support a more connected airport experience.

The project included the implementation of digital signage across several key passenger touchpoints, including security checkpoint wayfinding, terminal directional signage, and the airport’s cell phone waiting lot display.

Together, these elements created a cohesive visual communication system supporting both airport operations and traveler experience.

The Challenge

Airports require more than signage, they require clear, intuitive communication systems capable of guiding thousands of passengers efficiently through constantly changing environment.

The airport needed solutions that would:

  • Improve passenger wayfinding and navigation
  • Increase visibility of critical travel information
  • Create visual consistency across multiple environments
  • Integrate seamlessly into an active airport setting
  • Support long-term reliability and operational performance

Each installation needed to function independently while contributing to a unified airport experience. Beyond delivering critical operational information, the displays were designed to create visual consistency throughout the terminal and surrounding airport environments, helping reinforce navigation, improve passenger flow, and support a more modern, connected traveler experience.

Our Approach

Security Checkpoint Wayfinding Display

The Fi Company delivered the large-format LED wayfinding display positioned above the airport’s TSA and security checkpoint area.

Designed to support passenger navigation and operational communication, the display provides clear directional guidance while helping streamline movement through the security process.

Project highlights included:

  • Large-format overhead LED integration
  • Passenger routing and wayfinding support
  • Seamless integration within active security environments
  • High-visibility information delivery

The display not only improved visibility and wayfinding, but also established a strong digital focal point that enhanced the overall passenger environment and reinforced a more connected airport experience.

Terminal Directional Signage

The Fi Company also delivered digital directional signage solutions throughout the terminal environment to support passenger movement and improve overall wayfinding across key airport touchpoints.

Strategically positioned throughout the terminal, the displays were designed to provide clear, highly visible navigation support for travelers moving between gates, baggage claim, ground transportation, parking, rental car services, and terminal amenities.

By replacing traditional static signage with dynamic digital displays, the airport gained greater flexibility in how information could be communicated and updated throughout the passenger journey.

Displays were strategically positioned to guide travelers toward:

  • Gates
  • Baggage Claim
  • Ground Transportation
  • Parking and Rental Car Services
  • Retail and Dining Destinations

Cell Phone Lot Display System

Outside the terminal, The Fi Company delivered the digital display system serving the airport’s cell phone waiting lot, creating a highly visible communication point for visitors and arriving passengers.

Designed to provide real-time flight information in an easily accessible format, the display enhanced the arrival experience by helping drivers and guests stay informed while waiting for incoming travelers. The system introduced dynamic content capabilities that improved both functionality and visibility within the exterior airport environment.

Features include:

  • Flight Status Visibility
  • Arrival Information Display
  • Dynamic Content Capability
  • Enhanced Exterior Passenger Communication

In addition to supporting operational communication, the display contributed to the airport’s broader modernization efforts by extending the airport’s cohesive digital signage experience beyond the terminal interior.

The Results

✔️ Improved passenger wayfinding across multiple airport environments

✔️ Enhanced visibility of operational and travel information

✔️ Unified digital communication strategy across interior and exterior spaces
